Favor

I write about pretty random things on this blog. Really, it's just whatever comes to mind. If ya'll could do me a favor and post a comment and let me know who is actually reading this then I'll make a little bit more effort to write things that are relevant to my audience. Thanks!

Pocket Susan Advice: Tim Gunn also recommends these as the essential accessories. 1. A good watch 2. Handbag in a neutral color 3. A pair of classic pumps in black or brown leather

If It Weren't for Bad Luck, We Wouldn't Have Any

This has been a rough week for my friends. There are multiple ailing grandparents, broken hearts, unexpected financial burdens, and anxiety of what's to come next. And there is absolutely nothing that I can do to fix any of it. More than anything, I am a person of action. I want to do something and it kills me when I can't. So my darling friends, I love you. I am praying for you. And I am here for whatever you need.

On a different note, an average person only wears 20% of their wardrobe. Which means that 80% is taking up valuable real estate in their closet for no reason. My mother asked if for a Christmas gift, I would help her clean out her closet. Of course, I agreed but now that I've had some time to think about it, I'm not sure I'm up to the task. I love a good fight, but I will be facing some tough opponents:
Bad Buys: The items that seemed like a good idea, but clearly weren't because you've never actually worn them. They may or may not still have the tags.
Inspiration Items: These are the clothes you're keeping for when you lose those 10 extra pounds.
Guilty Gifts: Someone gave you this shirt. You hate it. You'll never wear it. But you can't get rid of a gift can you?
Hand-Me-Down Horrors: In the same family as Guilty Gifts, these clothes horrors were bad on someone else so they gave them to you. And guess what? They look bad on you too, but for some reason you feel the need to hold onto each and every item.

Pocket Susan Advice: Pay Attention to Tim Gunn. On his show, Tim Gunn tells women that there are only 10 items they need to start building a strong wardrobe. 1. Basic black dress 2. Trench coat 3. Classic dress pants 4. White shirt 5. Jeans 6. Cashmere sweater 7. Skirt 8. Day dress 9. Blazer 10. Sweat suit alternative My mom's second Christmas request is a shopping trip, but she doesn't know that Mr. Gunn will be guiding us all the way!

The Cat Search

I've held off on adopting a cat until now. First, I wasn't sure how my schedule would be in my job and I wanted to make sure that I had enough time to dedicate to a pet. Plus, animals can be expensive and I wasn't sure how that would effect my quest to pay off my student loans and buy a house. But now I'm waivering and am not sure what I want to do. Plus, this guy is at the humane society right now. I'm not sure that I will be able to say no. I think I would name him Bernard or Duncan. Of course, because I will be home for Christmas for over two weeks, I won't be able to adopt anyone until I get back in January so he might not even be there. I'll keep you posted.

Pocket Susan Advice: Make a list and check it twice. If you're like me and had to miss out on Black Friday or have common sense and avoided the chaos completely, then you're probably just getting started on your holiday shopping. To avoid over-spending take the time to make a list of exactly who you need to shop for, what exactly you wish to buy for them, how much you are able to spend on their gift, and where you will be able to purchase it. If you like to buy gifts for your family, friends, stylist, mailman, and so forth then doing a little math before you shop is a good reality check to make sure you can really afford the total.
